1. Mini-stick hockey games - This is when Jeff takes on both of Kai and I in the basement and usually wins. But Kai celebrates anytime a goal is scored and often switches teams randomly so no one really know what's going on- it's awesome!
-Last weekend Wendy and Kai took on Steve and Jeff in a hockey game following brunch. Wendy and Steve risked bruised and battered knees in favour of a youthful adrenaline rush.
2. Balloon volleyball - If you've never tried to keep a balloon off the ground in elaborate, back bending and volleyball diggin' ways - you are not practicing “young-at-heart” parenting! Add in a few more balloons to make it really exciting, add in an Uncle Mark to get your cardio burn on!
3. Lego building - Has never been more fun than when you're trying to build an airplane out of mostly Go Diego Go! Jungle themed Lego pieces. Parents need to get down and create “young-at-heart” Lego creations.
4. Mid- meal dance parties - Whenever my new favorite song plays (Mumford and Sons new CD: Babel - I will wait) a full-on dance party ensues regardless of current activity (e.g., breakfast, dinner, bath etc.).
Kai tells me I have to wait for the chorus (ironic?) and the insists that I march on the spot until it’s time to do our signature moves:
Mom: arms flailing whilst hoping around in a tight circle
Jeff: arms crossed while heel kicking his feet out
Kai: a one-sided Roger Rabbit foot shuffle (also recently featured in a mega 3 year old tantrum!)
Connor: look of terror and fear, mixed with shock, followed up by pterodactyl screams
And additional, “young-at-heart” antics such as:
-Body slams to enter bed at night
-Piling on Q Mom after she scores in mini-hockey game and
-All 3 bi-pedal Quigley’s jumping alongside Connor as he negotiates the dynamic nature of the Jolly Jumper (pictures to come)
Lately, young-at-heart parenting is how we're surviving in the House of Q!!
