The other morning, Jeff was hooting and hollering about something and I heard Kai tell his dad:
Kai: "Dad, calm down"
Jeff: silence.... and sudden calm
Me: "Did your three-year-old just tell you to calm down!"
When we were in Edmonton Kai was all revved up and Jeff and I were trying to calm him and he tells us:
"I can't, I'm all fired up!" and continued to bounce off the wall... It stopped us a bit dead in the water, we didn't know what to say.
Yesterday I dropped Kai off at daycare and his caregiver asked me if we'd been practicing the song: "Head and shoulders, knees and toes"? I said, "No, not lately" and the caregiver responded: "Well yesterday he sang it perfectly in Korean and we figured that you had watched You tube and were practicing. So we asked Kai and he told us, "my daddy speaks Korean"... My jaw dropped a bit, I assured them that his daddy did not speak Korean and probably never will!! So I have no idea how he got so good at the singing the song.
Kai is a very creative thinker ( or so I tell myself). There's also the story about Kai being very concerned that Jeff would miss his Christmas concert. When we asked him when it was, Kai responded, "Tomorrow night at 5pm". This was a few weeks ago... it could've been anytime in Kai's mind but he chose a Wednesday night at 5pm. Jeff was confused... and his questioning lead to more curious answers... He'll be singing "head and shoulders" (in Korean) and he'll be getting "lots of candy" following his performance.
The reality: the concert is December 6th at 3pm and there might be one candy cane involved!
I love 3 year olds!
Three year old logic is profound: you are fired up, you know what that feels like, it's hard to argue against this one... we'll just need to redirect and distract!
