We had one of the best nights out we’ve had in a looooonnnnngggg time and as to be expected it was followed by one of the worst mornings ever… for at least one of us in the House of Q.
We scavenged for a last minute babysitter and I can’t thank Tegan enough for coming over to watch Netflix on our couch instead of hers!!! (THANK YOU, you rock and we needed this night out!!)… Jeff and I met Matt, Kim, Kev, Michelle and Paul at… Aussie Rules!
WHO HAS BEEN TO AUSSIE RULES? If you haven’t… get a babysitter and unleash the antics because this is a must-do for almost anyone. (Recommendation: taking old friends who know all the words to every song ever written).
Please just take a minute to picture what we walked into at 9pm on a Friday night…
-Long tables of large groups of co-ed party’ers celebrating …anything from birthday’s, weddings, love, you get the picture…
-Two men on piano’s tickling the ivories to whatever requests they get from the rowdy crowd (think piano battling)- Carly Ray Jepson's, "Call me maybe" was playing when I walked in and Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" debuted near the end of the night.
-Every so often a group cheer is initiated by one of the piano player: “Aussie Aussie Aussie”, crowd; “Oi Oi Oi”… screaming as loud as you can (think: lose your voice for 3 days after loud!!)
-People dancing like it’s 2am (yes that inebriated already, it was 9:01pm)
-Ear drums bursting under the sheer volume of piano key strumming
Seconds following our entrance, with just Jeff and I from our group holding a table for 12 - we’re standing on our chairs , clapping our hands above our head and scream-singing whatever song is playing! FOR REAL!!! (we succumbed to peer pressure in a room full of complete strangers).
Then our group arrived… and the party really got started and it didn’t stop. It was fun times, singing, animated dancing on chairs, across tables and of course a few requests by our group. We celebrated “Matt Telford’s bar mitzvah” and cheered brother and sister, Kim and Kev on as they lit the stage up dancing to “Africa” and I 'lost it' watching one guy celebrate his “vasectomy” as he danced to Michael Jackson’s “beat it” on stage.
It was amazing fun… until we realized we needed to be parents in just a few short hours… and camping was on our Saturday to-do list! FOR REAL!
Then Saturday morning happened. Jeff was hurtin’ large! The little Q boys were up and ready to go camping and we still had miles of to-do’s before the car left the driveway! It wasn’t pretty but somehow...we made it happen… Jeff and I struggled.
Notes to self: Google hangover remedies before going out, next time invest in some miracle “stop hangover” pill that I spied on shelf at London Drugs and don’t plan camping departure for the morning after. The only thing worse must’ve been flying with a 15 month old on Saturday… how'd that work out Kim and Matt?
