I dropped Kai off at day care on Monday… without indoor shoes! I realized almost the second I set foot in the building but it made no difference, there was no turning back. Kai had to go the day with no indoor shoes.
So like any self-respecting mother would do - I desperately pawed through the lost and found. Low and behold, a perfect looking pair of SpongeBob crocs, adorned with those widget jewel-thingy’s!! I was ecstatic and I was definitely the only one.
Kai suddenly protested SpongeBob, in that very second, SpongeBob became the worst cartoon ever and those crocs… the worst thing ever!! So I left him after what felt like 30minutes of Kai refusing to wear the SpongeBob crocs and pouting like a trooper! It wasn’t my shiniest parent moment… but I figured it wouldn’t scar him too badly.
I remember being in grade school and a peer’s mom would forget to put their indoor shoes in their bag and it was a wet, soggy, clunky boots day! It was like a rite of passage; can you hack it wearing insanely bulky boots all day? Remember bare feet in gym class, or trying to read a book during library time. Just trying to take a pee was a challenge. The boots prevented effective pull down of pants and then you’re at risk of peeing on your pants. I am sure I had days like this when I was Kai’s age, so I left him on Monday and … he survived!!
I picked him up at the end of the day and he came barreling towards me wearing… his clunky boots! Long forgotten are the SpongeBob crocs... in fact I can’t find them anywhere at the day care… maybe I tweaked some other forgetful parent’s mind!!
