There has been plenty of daily content and several House of Q shenanigans… but no time to sit down and write or upload photos. Between Connor’s explosive and persistent diarrhea, Kai’s middle of the night puking episodes and Jeff’s sudden collapse into the Man-cold state… I have had my hands full!
In addition, the term, “normality” is surely a relative term-because the House of Q is full of everyday events that never occur again thereby avoiding normal life.
So here’s my re-cap:
Jeff and I scrambled to Christmas shop days before the man in the red suit was to arrive. We pulled it off and it was thanks to Kati and Poppa that we were able to appear like organized and caring parents.
My birthday was on December 24th and that started with a leap out of bed due to a suspicious smell, wafting out of Connor’s bedroom. Yep! Explosive diarrhea forced us into full team approach with the bathtub being the only safe haven for flying feces. We bathed a screaming Connor for 10minutes, then washed out his clothes and dealt with the bedding… poor kid! Then I jumped into the shower to enjoy a cold shower. No hot water. In the meantime the humidifier in our bedroom was leaking its water tank all over our floor without us knowing… so there was water, poop and cold everywhere I went. This was an interesting start to my birthday! Next on the agenda was a special breakfast out; a daring feat for any day of the year, never mind my birthday. We ate amazing food at Over Easy here in Calgary but note to self: next year, secure babysitters for 24 hour period.
In the end it was a great day- I enjoyed quiet time with my family.
Christmas day we awoke to an explosion of gifts. The kids loved it! Connor ate anything he could get his hands on from his stocking and Kai got into the chocolate as soon as he could.
The kids got some great gifts including bean bag chairs, a toboggan, more train tracks, a car ramp, mini-basketballs, lego and a pound a peg toy which Connor dominated leaving dents and dings within minutes!
It was a great start to a great day. We then lazed around and relaxed all day. We dove into the treats and didn’t look back. The day zipped by but we did make it outside for a short walk- I think!
The Christmas week was great thanks to my parents, Kati and Poppa. Kati cooked, cleaned, and washed like she’s never experienced before. Poppa played sports, took Connor off-roading in the sled, watched Kai skate and clocked some serious couch time watching sports with Jeff. The grandparents even babysat one night so Jeff and I could escape to a movie.
We returned to work the week of December 30th which felt so wrong. But we survived, barely. We spent New Years Eve crashing at Hotel Fehr-Cooper. Our friends Wendy and Steve invited us for dinner, drinks and a sleep-over. It was great and we stayed up way too late drinking and eating fabulous treats.
So this week is back to routine… we’ve been struggling a little but the kids are well rested and are practically springing out of bed. Jeff is over his man-cold and I am back to blogging- I hope.
