Last week it was Kai and this week it's me, sickness has entered the House of
Q! I hope to keep Connor and Jeff healthy which means washing hands till
they're raw ( I'm there) and keeping my distance (hmmm breastfeeding??). Thank
goodness we had the house cleaned this past weekend. But I am house bound again
this week. I am achy, tired and sore- so unfair.
I heard last week that "Everything you need to heal, shows up everyday"...
I've been keeping this in mind constantly. It's true but listening and letting
it come to me instead of searching for it is tricky.
On another note, I've been finding inspiration in lots of different places
these days. Jeff is my sounding board for my ideas but the biggest issues
remain; time and money. Why? This is always the case but I am starting to look
at things from a different perspective- a DIY perspective. The biggest ideas
surround our house and mainly our kitchen. I am trying to be patient but really
I just want it "perfect", now! The biggest question is: do we do a huge reno to
make it a dreamy new kitchen or do we retro-fit what we have? I have been
touring the internet for ideas and the best blogs I'm addicted to include: Young
House Love and House Tweaking. These two sites are created by DIY pros that
inspire me constantly. I can't get enough of their ideas, drive and ability to
"get things done". It's great to read and get ideas from others, the trick is
converting it into action in my house!
So in the next few weeks I plan to create my dream kitchen using ikea's
online system and then price out everything and I will continue to contemplate
retro-fitting. I'll need to have our plumber in to see about installing a
dishwasher ( we have a protable currently) and gas oven lines. These are two
predictors of how we proceed.
I also want to get photos and artwork up on the walls. It's been 2.5 years
since we moved in and there are still several empty walls and the frames are in
various locations around the house, mainly closets, under beds or propped up. I
vow to just do it, get them up and change photos as I go. One problem is, hubby
and I constantly have different thoughts about how, what and why frames should
go where. I don't think I have the best sense of interior design but he has
very little- he's just too practical and their is an element of inpractibility
when decorating. I believe it to be true to never have anything in your space
that you don't deem to be beautiful, useful or practical but he's the extreme
with practicality.
So I just need to get myself feeling better and then start making my to-do
list and tackle it one step at a time. I think this house stuff will be my
project for the year. To get this house in tip-top shape all the while living
with my messy, demanding funny, quirky and zany Quigley Boys. I do love my
life.
