Kai is talking like grandma. He says, “I just looooove this” about most things right now… carrots, ‘zert (aka dessert), adobe chicken and many other things that surprise and please us. It’s hilarious and makes everyone feel very positive and happy around here. Connor is eating like the best little eater ever! And he’s stopped screaming during meals. These are good things but we’re scared for the day the grandparents leave.
We had a great weekend touring the mountains with the Q Grandparents. We headed to Banff on Friday and had a great lunch in Canmore with Simon Donato; an Oakridge High School kid who’s doing crazy and amazing things on a show called Boundless and marketing Stoked Oats. This guy redefines hard core outdoor enthusiast and we had lunch with him after Maryliz and Al saw him speak at a function in London. It was great, and maybe, just maybe we’ll get to retreat to his place one weekend when he’s off traveling the world.
We headed into Banff for the rest of the weekend and it was great. Here’s some of the excitement and good things from the weekend:
· Kai became quite fond of the Eucalyptus steam room
· Connor loved wearing Kai’s swimming goggles and tempting his self-floating abilities by plunging into the water unannounced
· Jeff and I had a date night (whoo hooo!) and planned our future… sort of
· The kids ate pizza out with the grandparents and were “perfect” little Q boys (pffff....of course!)
· I walked the main street and didn’t buy a thing!!! How’s that for restraint?
We had a relaxing time, ate great food, had good walks in the mountains and then …there was a snow storm on Sunday! Seriously!! I had a run in 24 degree temps on Thursday afternoon and then on Sunday, we swapped our fall coats for winter boots, coats, snow pants, wool hats, mittens and neck tubes!… What a change! I am not impressed, and more importantly the grandparents are not impressed…
Here’s the issue:
Today, Grandpa and Grandma got the kids ready for day care and day home. Lizzie reported she was “done!” after donning all the damn winter gear. I am not okay with this – Grandma Lizzie’s the only one with enough stamina to get the job done. I’m thinking, “she can’t be done!”… and never mind the fact that if she can’t do it… when she leaves… I’m screwed ! This creates a major time differential in our morning routine. It’s like adding 15 extra minutes to the frantic morning schedule… that means getting up at 5:45am and we all know that’s not going to happen!
So we started the weekend with awesome, good things and excitement but ended with the rude entrance of winter. Winter is officially here and I (like last year) am in complete and total denial. Upon declaring a boycott on winter en route to work this am, Jeff says, “Well then little Giller, why do you live in a winter city then?” This sparked an interesting discussion which ended with… I’m booking a trip to Hawaii asap!
So in the end it’s all good – Hawaii in particular is good … and here’s some footage from our adventures in Banff with the grandparents!
