I attended a 4 day work-related course in Edmonton this past weekend and Jeff and the boys joined me on Friday night. I had a room to myself for 2 nights and it was great! The course was awesome and the boys had great fun in Edmonton too. They toured West Edmonton Mall and took in all the sights including; the seal, the water park, the skating rink and just chillin’ in the enormous mall! The winter is so cold in Edmonton, it’s no wonder they have this giant mall… when Edmontonians don’t know what to do; everyone heads to the mall.
When I finally joined them after my course each day we’d embark on our biggest challenge ever… eating dinner at a restaurant.
It got me temporarily wondering…Is it too much to ask for a nice, quiet, civilized meal?
Yes …actually it is, and it will continue to be as long as these Q boys are little.
We wanted an easy, tasty dinner on Sunday night in Edmonton we struck out. Everybody and their brother was looking for eats at West Edmonton Mall. It felt like the longest incident ever and ended with a fast food drive thru, nourishing our bellies and the scary part was it tasted like the best meal ever after fasting through the hungriest hours.
Then on Monday morning, we just wanted a nice, quaint breakfast place, with character, charm and something different from the chain’s . We were craving a nice coffee, eggs any style,” just right” toast and some palatable protein meat source … and after driving around Edmonton for what seemed like half a day, we found ourselves back at our hotel (that we had already checked out of) eating at the local ABC restaurant (that they boys had eaten at for the past 2 mornings). We were so grateful that there weren’t any line ups, the boys had already approved the kiddie menu and the boys could walk around a bit that we didn’t pay much heed to other details… Jeff turned to me and said, “We’re totally in the age of Denny’s and Nabob”… we laughed as we realized it is our reality and we should just accept it.
So in the end, it was a great breakfast to end a great weekend. The drive back to Calgary was more challenging as both boys were not interested in sitting in their car seats and it’s a solid 3 hour drive… so we’re still recovering from that drive!
The other issue is that this week feels like it’s over before it’s even started but with only 2 work days for me I need to cram it all in but do it all with a smile on my face- ha! Wish me luck!
