“Parenting is easy if you have an abundance of four things: 1) energy 2) creativity 3) selflessness 4) affection. If you give your kids everything you have inside of you, they will eventually give it back. They won't want to let you down. You won't have to punish them or push them to exert.” - John Buccingross
Right now I’m listening to the exuberant yells and laughter from the basement. Dad’s in charge and there’s play happening in the playroom. In fact, I haven’t heard any cries or protests at all. Dad has seriously stepped up his skills in the play department. Peace, happiness and co-existence all at once. This is unheard of!
It’s been a good day but I only had the kids half the day because I had to torture myself at the dentist for what felt like hours in the afternoon. I dropped the kids at Chantal’s day home for lunch where they quickly slipped into her trance of being well-behaved kids who listened, ate and slept on demand. It was a good deal for all of us.
Tonight is a quieter (as in volume, noise, decibels etc.) night for us. This happens every Wednesday and Friday ( my home days). The kids are at peace, they’re entertaining and usually not melting down. This differs 10 fold from the days I work.
So Jeff’s in charge as they kids are excited to play with him. They’re embracing the games and chaos of play in the basement for a bit before bed. I can hear one hockey game going on (complete with the singing of, “O’Canada” to start the festivities) and then I hear another game involving; slap shot, chasing and wrestling happening on the side. Connor’s screaming, “Daaaada, Daaaada”, as loud as he can when he’s ready to slap shoot at Jeff’s face. Then Kai’s yelling, “ I scored!” whenever Jeff’s distracted with Connor. It’s fun to listen. They’re being boys, having fun and …. finally all playing together.
Soon they’ll break into remote control car races, then maybe some train track building before wrapping up the session with a classic game of hide and seek, or running into the bean bag chairs. It’s Jeff most enjoyable time with the boys. I am happy he’s finally getting some quality play time in with the Q boys.
We wrapped up last week with Connor’s flu episode and then started this week with Jeff’s flu torture. It’s been a long few weeks in the House of Q but all in all I think we’re finally on the mend… dare I say!!
