We’ve been inside for like 240 hours straight ( that’s 10 days). I now feel like I know what it’s like to live in the Arctic or Antarctic… it’s been freezing and if the temperature rose slightly, it started to snow and you couldn’t see 1 foot in front of you… so basically it’s been like the coldest, snowiest winter already in Calgary and it’s not even winter yet!
This past weekend, we did get our tree up but Jeff had to go it alone since it was too cold to get the whole family involved. I was scared to send Jeff out on his own. He has a history of picking less than perfect trees and he’s always looking for a deal (“Yes a tree costs more than $10.00”). And this year… was no different!! I told him where to go and what I wanted and he basically b-lined it for Home Depot because they give you a coupon if you buy a tree from them.
So he returns in record time and attached to the top of the car is a scrawny “branch” with a trail of needles following the car. I start banging on the window, shaking my head and am convinced that this tree needs to go back… Kai is yelling, “that’s not a good tree” and I am sending heckling texts (because it’s -30 outside). But nope, Jeff is all business and he’s convinced that this is the perfect tree!
That tree is now dropping its needles in the comfort of my home (“tink, tink, tink”, every 30 seconds).
To be fair, it’s not as bad as I first thought but it’s severely dehydrated . But what the heck… Jeff secured the tree for $30 and the coupon is worth $25 so basically for $5 he’s provided his family with a pine-scented real tree! Jeff’s pretty proud of himself!
We decorated the tree without incident and Kai is no in charge of lighting the tree up morning and night. He loves it and it’s starting to feel a bit like Christmas around here.
