It was the perfect fit to the chaos that surrounded us.
We decorated a Christmas plate, contemplated where to place our spray-on tattoo, watched a very entertaining musician, ate a few dogs (i.e., hot dogs), then watched Connor scream bloody murder when Santa called his name and painfully waited till Kai got his gift- almost the last one. Kai did great and he dutifully requested his gift wish for this year – “more tracks” (i.e., more train tracks). It was fun! ( I think!)
By the end of the 3 hours, we had 2 elated, sugar-loaded, exhausted kids which lasted for the rest of the day… in fact… they’re still like this. All week they’ve been fluctuating, moody and irritable; high one minute, super cranky the next and screaming, crying or complaining about something in between. I’m thinking : ‘Tis the season.
We’ve decided not to attend Jeff’s staff party this year. I feel slightly Grinch-ish because we’re not attending… I love a party! But the reality is, hiring a babysitter, finding a cab and loading up on drinks to get us through the night = at least a $300 night! (and a painful start to the morning after). Jeff and I can think of a few other things to spend $300 on this Christmas season.
So instead, this coming weekend we’re going to brave the frigid temps (it's like -200 here) and get a beautiful Christmas tree. Then we’ll curse, cuss and swear (one of us will at least, i.e., Jeff) in an attempt to stand the tree up straight in the most perfect spot (yet to be determined) and then decorate this masterpiece.
Here are the challenges I foresee:
· Connor throwing the ornaments (they’ll look like fun balls to throw in this kids eyes)
· Kai clustering all his decorations on the bottom 1/3, then losing it as I attempt to redistribute
· Realizing my lights don’t quite spread evenly across the tree
· Monitoring the little Q boys each time they walk within a 4foot radius of the damn thing!
This sounds like fun! Doesn’t it?
Yep, it’s going to be an interesting Christmas with these two boys… let’s hope it’s nothing but fun and laughs! ‘Tis the season!
