There’s been an unusual (or usual?) amount of chaos in the House of Q this past week.
We’ve all been fighting something- not quite sick, but not quite "right" either.
Jeff’s been putting in a lot of extra professional time this week, Kai’s been challenging gravity by launching off the sun room chaise whenever I’m not looking and Connor’s got, “the-world’s-worst-bum-rash-in-the-face-of-history” . The poor chubs was having trouble walking, endured an average of 10 diaper changes/day and screamed bloody murder if you approached him for a wee sniff! (by wee I mean; "knock you off your feet")
Now because of the "world’s-worst-bum-rash-in-the-face-of-history", our life has been ‘on hold’. Connor stayed home with Jeff on Monday to go to the doctor and he’s still not himself today (Friday!!). We haven’t gotten our Christmas shopping done, our laundry is lingering in every room and food crumbs are our new floor covering! It’s a whole new state of chaos for us!
But somehow we did manage our first family skate last weekend, baking and decorating gingerbread men and a house (side note: check oven temperature following screaming chubs episode) and we’re all still… enduring!

Tonight we’re excited to welcome Katie and Poppa to Calgary. The kids will likely wear them down this weekend and we’ll have approximately 8 days left to mellow them out. Kai has already asked me if they’re bringing him stuff, and I have already emailed in a desperate attempt to warn them of our current state and requested major help and babysitting required in order for Christmas to happen.
Yesterday, I told a co-worker that I wasn’t sure I was cut out for this, “Christmas-thing”. It was my first true admission that perhaps I am a wee bit in over my head. In addition, these thoughts further affirmed my original dream to travel to Hawaii for Christmas this year…
So back to reality… Christmas is like here, and I am NOT in Hawaii… but in the House of Q, it will be an interesting adventure that’s for sure.
