After reading this blog title, you're thinking: "they love Diego and Dora the animal rescuers"... but although we love Diego and his animated crew, we're into a new kind of Diego... a boston terrier named Diego who lives next door.
The boys next door are building our joint fence in the backyard and their little dog named, Diego came for a visit today. He's smart, energetic, awesome with the Q boys and best of all... he LOVES playing catch with a ball. This was an enormous hit with Kai and Connor... Kai spent the entire morning dog sitting and threw the ball 1000 times or more. Then this afternoon, Connor got his chance to hone his throwing arm to entertain Diego. Jeff even got some crazy 360 spin in the air out of Diego. At one point, the boys moved onto other activities, Jeff was cleaning up the yard and Diego stood frozen in position waiting for someone to throw the ball... so I obliged him... it was so fun!
It had us wondering a few things:
a) can we rent this dog?
b) have dogs ever been considered baby/kid sitters?
c) should we put a dog door in the fence joining our neighbour's yard in order to facilitate play time with Diego?
It was such a hit with Kai that whenever he came in for lunch, snacks or toilet breaks he was so sad and wore the body of defeat; shoulders slumped, bottom lip hanging out... he was so sad that the dog didn't want to play with him. So we have on our hands a new obsession but this is one we'll have to be satisfied by renting Diego, there's no dog purchase in our near or far future...
But it was so fun to play with him and I'm sure there will be many more play dates in our yard.
